Assignments and job ownership
Execution owner versus validation reviewer
These are different assignments with different purposes.
| Assignment | Who it is for | What it enables |
|---|---|---|
| Execution owner | Technician for sample analysis, trainer for training, consultant for consultation | Starting the work and recording the operational delivery steps. |
| Validation reviewer | Reviewer | Reviewing a submitted job and approving it or requesting changes. |
A reviewer may be assigned before work starts. This is intentional: it makes the later validation handoff explicit without making the reviewer the delivery owner.
Starting work
Before you select Start Work, confirm that the job has reached its required preparation step:
| Job type | What must happen first |
|---|---|
| Sample analysis | Payment is confirmed, you are assigned, next instructions have been sent, and samples are recorded as received. |
| Training | Payment is confirmed, you are assigned, and next instructions have been sent. |
| Consultation | Payment is confirmed, you are assigned, and next instructions have been sent. |
After Start Work, the job moves to In Progress. For sample analysis, receiving physical samples does not itself start laboratory work; it records custody and creates the initial sample records.
When you can see work but cannot act
This is usually expected in one of these situations:
- you are in the correct service group but are not the assigned execution owner
- the job is assigned to someone else
- the job has not reached the required lifecycle stage
- a predecessor step is incomplete, such as physical receipt or sent instructions
- your current workspace is client rather than staff
Ask an administrator to correct the assignment or service-group scope. Do not use another person’s account to bypass an assignment restriction.
Handover and rework
When a reviewer requests changes, the job returns to the delivery owner. Resume work, correct the issue, update the relevant evidence or final deliverable, then submit the job again for review.
